You probably have heard of the popular social media app tiktok. It has more than 700 million users and is estimated to gain 1 billion users around 2022. Tik Tok was created by Zhang Yiming, and later owned by ByteDance. Even though youtube has more than 2 billion users daily, and more than half the population on earth have access to youtube. So how are tiktok ruining youtube? Well in watch time tiktok gets millions or even billions of views. The most viewed video on tiktok was made by zach king and has around 2.3 billion views! The most viewed video on youtube was baby shark and has more than 9 billion views. So the differences are big between youtube and tiktok. But tik tok still got more users within views, because the algorithm of short videos attracts more people, more people equals more views per video uploaded. It is also more easy to upload videos on tiktok, than youtube where you have to upload your file, edit the thumbnail -and the main video.
Youtube have even tried to “copy” tik tok by introducing youtube shorts. It hasn't been as successful as tiktok, but has gained a decent portion of viewers. The funny part is that most of the short videos are reloaded from tiktoks. So tik tok is still being used even if it is on youtube. Even most of the reaction channels on youtube have reacted to videos on tiktok! So there is no doubt that youtube is competing with tiktok, and that most of the users spend more watch time on tiktok than youtube. But youtube with no doubt still gonna be the biggest social entertainment platform on the internet.
